Cambridgeshire and Peterborough are experiencing an explosion of people wanting to learn British Sign Language.

Over 70 students have begun courses with Sign Language Academy this month and that’s in addition to the 55 students we have already taught this year so far! All together Sign Language Academy has delivered sign language courses to 125 students since January.

Enrollment has already opened for courses beginning in January 2016 in Cambridge. Jamie Billam, Sign Language Academy’s senior tutor will be teaching new level 1 and level 2 students in the new year. You can enrol for those courses here or register your interest for other up coming BSL courses

Andy Palmer, Managing Director of Cambridgeshire Deaf Association said: “This is great news on so many levels. Not only is it brilliant that there is such enthusiasm for this beautiful language in our area, but we have learners from many public services taking part and any surplus from these courses goes towards our community fund which is there for the benefit of deaf people in this area.”

“I was fortunate enough to learn sign language from a young age and develop it over time. It’s a beautiful language and one I would encourage anyone to get to know.”

Courses are often over subscribed so potential learners are advised to enrol as quickly as possible to avoid disappointment.

“It was a pleasure to welcome the students today as part of the successful long-term relationship we have with Cambridge University.

“Jamie is a first-class tutor and his students will, after only 4-weeks, come away with great knowledge, skill, and a qualification too.

“There’s already lots of interest in our courses in Peterborough, Huntingdon and Cambridge beginning in September, I would encourage anyone to do what the medical students did and get yourself registered on a course because places will be limited.”

Sign language isn’t just a fascinating language to learn, but can provide access to a whole new world with the vibrant deaf community and unlock more employment opportunities. It’s well worth seriously considering as a way to spend your future free time.

2015 is the first time that the re-branded CDA Sign Language Academy have offered online registration and monthly instalments as a way to spread the cost of courses – something that has been warmly welcomed by students who can now learn sign language without breaking the bank.

If you would like to join the 40 Cambridgeshire and Peterborough people who are learning sign language now with CDA Sign Language Academy, you can register your interest for the next round of courses that begin in September. As well as continuing the current range of courses currently on offer CDA Sign Language Academy is currently looking for students who want to study BSL Level 2 in Peterborough, BSL Level 1 in Huntingdon, and there is a ‘Fast-Track’ level 1 course planned for April this year with a few spaces left.

Don’t forget – there’s still time to sign-up for level 2 in Cambridge beginning on Wednesday next week!
