Volunteers are crucial in supporting the local Deaf Community.
Cambridgeshire is a big rural county so volunteers help CDA to reach the most isolated deaf people.
Volunteering for CDA is dynamic and rewarding.
We run several volunteer services, each supporting people in different ways:
CDA Befriending – Volunteers are matched with people who may use BSL, lip-reading, or speech. You might assist with things like hospital visits, shopping, filling out simple forms, letter writing, or providing transport to befriending events.
CDA Hearing Help Befriending – Volunteers are matched with older adults who have age-related hearing loss. This role is more about companionship, conversation, and encouraging people to join local wellbeing groups and activities.
Hearing Help Technician – Volunteers provide vital support at drop-in sessions by servicing hearing aids, carrying out simple maintenance, and helping people feel more confident in using their hearing devices.
All of these roles are flexible, sociable, and make a real difference in helping people feel more connected and supported.

CDA volunteers make a real difference
We provide full training – including deaf awareness, knowledge of Deaf culture, and BSL skills – so you’ll feel confident and supported in your role.
Whatever your interests or skills, there’s a way you can get involved
