Our services are specialist, practical, and led by people who understand deafblind communication.

This page brings together everything we offer for deafblind people in one place.

Advocacy and Casework for Deafblind People

We provide independent, specialist advocacy for deafblind people.

Our advocates and caseworkers support you to understand your rights, make your voice heard, and navigate difficult situations. This includes:

  • Care Act advocacy
  • NHS complaints advocacy
  • Support with housing, benefits, health, and social care
  • Help with day-to-day issues such as bills, disputes, and accessing services
  • Emotional support when things feel overwhelming

Our team works using deafblind manual and hands-on communication, so you can communicate in the way that works best for you.

Independent and separate from care

Our advocacy service is funded and monitored separately from our care and support services. It is independently funded by POhWER and operates independently of CDA’s care provision.

This means our advocates work solely in your interests and can challenge services when needed.

Care and Support Services

We provide high-quality care and support for deafblind people across Cambridgeshire.

This includes:

  • Personal assistants and support workers
  • Personal care
  • Communicator Guides to support independence and mobility

We are CQC registered and have been rated Outstanding in two inspections in a row — placing us among the very top care providers in the UK.

Our support workers are trained in deafblind manual and understand the realities of deafblind life. Our leadership team has long-standing experience supporting deafblind people and shaping services around real needs.

What makes CDA different is access. Deafblind people can communicate not only with support staff, but also with managers and senior leaders — right up to the Chief Executive — using deafblind manual and hands-on communication.

This means decisions are informed, responsive, and rooted in lived experience.

Community and Social Life

Being deafblind should not mean being isolated.

We run inclusive social and community activities where deafblind people are welcomed, supported, and included.

This includes:

  • Deafblind-inclusive drop-ins
  • Social events across Cambridgeshire
  • Opportunities to meet others, build confidence, and get out and about

Peterborough Deafblind Café

Starting March 2026, we are launching a regular Deafblind Café at the Bull Hotel in Peterborough.

This is a fully accessible social space for deafblind people, friends, and support workers.

Advocates, caseworkers, and support staff will be available if people need support on the day.

Come for the company. Stay for the conversation.

Befriending for Deafblind People

Our befriending service connects deafblind people with trained volunteers who offer time, conversation, and companionship.

Many of our volunteers are specially trained to work with deafblind people. In partnership with Anglia Ruskin University, we trained 16 volunteers to understand deafblind communication and learn the deafblind alphabet.

Befriending can mean:

  • One-to-one time
  • Support to attend activities
  • Building confidence and connections

We also welcome people who want to become volunteers or join future deafblind training courses. If that’s you, just get in touch.
