AI tools that translate and interpret British Sign Language (BSL) are starting to appear online, and many deaf people will already have seen them on social media. A new project wants to make sure BSL users have a real say in what happens next.

What is the project?

BSL and AI: What is the future? is a collaborative project between nine organisations, led by RNID. Cambridgeshire Deaf Association is one of the partners.

The project gives deaf people and the signing community the chance to ask questions about AI, find out what it could mean for BSL, and share their views.

Join the livestream

The project launches with a livestream on Friday 23 October 2026 at 7pm, presented in BSL by Ahmed Mudawi and Michael Quinlan.

You will be able to find out more about the project, ask your questions in the comments and learn how to get involved.

How to watch

Watch live on YouTube or on Facebook.

And if you know someone who uses BSL and has a view on AI, please pass this on. Not everyone sees social media.
