Since 1959, each year we put on one of Shakespeare’s plays in the outdoor Jacobean courtyard of The George Hotel, selling out to over 2,000 people every year, and this year we are performing The Tempest. The performances are always performed using a Hearing Loop, but since 2014 we have involved Stagetext for one performance to do a captioned performance for us, (basically and LED display with surtitles as per the attached image) for the hard of hearing, and this year’s Captioned performance will be on Tuesday 5th July
SatG were only the second amateur company in the country to offer this facility for an open-air Shakespeare production, providing local deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people the opportunity to enjoy live theatre in the unique setting of the George’s Jacobean courtyard.
STAGETEXT provides captioning services to some of the country’s most famous theatres including the National Theatre, Shakespeare’s Globe, Royal Court, Donmar Warehouse, the Royal Exchange Manchester, Milton Keynes Theatre and Cambridge Arts.
The performance, at 7.30pm on Tuesday 5th July, will be suitable for anyone, but will feature captions (subtitles) for deaf and hard of hearing patrons. Tickets for the Tuesday evening production, as well as the rest of the two week run, are now on sale at www.satg.org.uk/tickets .
We have a Facebook page www.facebook.com/ShakespeareAtTheGeorge and are also on Twitter @SATG_Huntingdon
We have also set up a Facebook event for the run.
