Great news for theatre lovers this week as three new BSL accessible performances were announced as part of the sixth season of the Platform8 Festival in May. See what shows are on!

Noisy Holiday

Noisy Holidayby Kid Carpet is coming to Peterborough on Sunday 12 May as part of the Jumped Up Theatre’s Platform 8 Festival.

Kid Carpet’s shows are a crazy rock-concert mash-up of songs and stories for 5- to 9 year olds and their families. Kirsty Dorkenoo is providing BSL interpretation for this show. Kirsty has already seen the show and said it was great.

Noisy Holiday is a ridiculous story about going on holiday with silliness and mischief for the whole family.

After a long, exhausting music tour, Kid Carpet is going on a nce relaxing holiday. But this might not be the sooting holiday he had expeted as the Noisy Animals takeober his break with big beat songs, wonky donkeys, special effects, puppets and animation.

Expect sand in your sandwiches, ants in your ice-cream and Badger’s towel on your sun lounger.

Kid’s Carpet’s Noisy Holiday is at The Key Studio Theatre at 2.30pm on Sunday, 12 May

All tickets are £6. The show is 60 minutes long.

Juliet & Romeo

Juliet & Romeoby Lost Dog Dance Theatre Company is coming to Peterborough on Thursday 9 May as part of the Jumped Up Theatre’s Platform 8 Festival.

This great show was reviewed by the Guardian newspaper as “Smart, subversive and sexy.”

This performance of Juliet & Romeowill include BSL interpretation by Clare Edwards, who has rehearsed with the company to stage her signing.

Juliet & Romeo reveals the real story of Romeo and Juliet. It turns out they didn’t die in a tragic misunderstanding, but they grew up and lived happily ever after.

Well, sort of happily ever after.

They are now in their forties. One of them is having a midlife crisis. They are struggling to live up to their reputations as the perfect example of romantic love. They have decided to confront their difficulties by putting on a show that tells their story. Their marriage therapist doesn’t think this is a good idea. But they are doing it anyway.

This show is full of passionate dance, great comedy and high emotion.

Kate Hall, the Creative Producer for the Platform8 Festival has seen the show and loved it. She recommends it for CDA members because it was is very visual and physical. And because the sign-interpreter spent time in rehearsal, working out how best to include BSL interpretation, which has been well received elsewhere.

Juliet & Romeo is on an international and national tour, including the Royal Opera House, and then is at Stanground Sports Centre at Stanground College on Thursday 9 May at 7.45pm.

Standard price tickets are £11. Concession tickets, including for CDA members, are only £7.

What Words Are Ours

Come to a performance night that celebrates D/deaf artists and hearing artists.

What Words Are Ours? is a BSL and live captioned performance night created be Talia Randall and is The Key Theatre, Peterborough on Friday, 17^thMay.

The night features D/deaf poets Raymond Antrobus and Zoë McWhinney.

Raymond Antrobus will be performing some pieces from his award-winning poetry book The Perseverance. Raymond recently won the acclaimed Ted Hughes Award.

And Zoë McWhinney will be performing her incredible BSL poetry and Visual Vernacular.

Also performing on the night are:
