Tor Docherty Joins the CDA Board

New Family Social Chief Executive Tor Docherty has been appointed as a Trustee of the Cambridgeshire Deaf Association (CDA). 

To Docherty, Chief Executive of LGBT adoption charity New Family Social has joined the Cambridgeshire Deaf Association board of trustees after initially volunteering for the charity in their befriending service.

Tor is an experienced sign language user and is studying to achieve level 6, the highest possible level without being an interpreter. 

Tor brings her experience of people management, governance and legal to the 100 year-old charity as it continues to strengthen its governance team. New Family Social, a Swaffam Bulbeck based organisation focused on LGBT fostering and adoption.

Tor said: “I’m delighted to join the CDA board.

“I have worked in small voluntary organisations for more than 20 years and I’m currently the Chief Executive of a charity. I have a law degree and a diploma in fundraising.

“I started to learn BSL when I was 17 (a long time ago!) and I’m now working towards level six. I’m passionate about equality and access for Deaf people.

“I’ve been to several CDA events and volunteered as a befriender. I’m looking forward to working with CEO Andrew Palmer and his great team of skilled and hard-working staff and volunteers.

Trustees of CDA meet quarterly, usually at the Charities offices in Cambridge, Huntingdon and Peterborough but Tor’s first meeting will be on video call thanks to the current Coronavirus pandemic.
