For Deaf and Hard people Aged 16–24

Cambridgeshire Deaf Association (CDA) is pleased to share an exciting opportunity for deaf and hard of hearing people aged 16 to 24 who are interested in exploring a career in the horse racing industry with the National Stud.

Horse racing offers a wide range of roles, not just riding, and this pathway provides a supportive and practical way to learn more about the industry and the different jobs available.

Learn About the Industry – First Steps

The opportunity begins with an introductory course designed to help young people learn more about:

• The horse racing industry

• Different roles available, including stable work, horse care, and yard roles

• What it’s like to work with horses as part of a professional team

• The skills and confidence needed to move into employment

No previous experience or qualifications are required. The course is designed to be welcoming, practical, and supportive.

A Gateway to Apprenticeships

After completing the course, there may be a gateway into a paid apprenticeship within the horse racing industry.

Apprenticeships allow young people to:

• Learn while working

• Gain real, hands-on experience

• Develop job-specific skills

• Work towards long-term employment in the industry

This pathway offers a realistic and supported route into work.

Support from Cambridgeshire Deaf Association (CDA)

CDA will support deaf and hard of hearing people throughout the apprenticeship journey.

This includes:

• Support with applications and next steps

• Help with Access to Work applications

• Ongoing communication support

• Supporting employers with deaf awareness training

• Helping workplaces understand how to support deaf and hard of hearing employees effectively

You will not be expected to navigate this process alone.
