Cambridgeshire Deaf Association is launching a brand new activity this autumn: Deaf & Hard of Hearing Walking Football, starting Monday 21 September at Powerleague in Stanground, Peterborough.

Walking football is football with one simple rule: no running. Slowing the pace down opens the game up to anyone, whatever their age or fitness level, whether they’re picking up a ball for the first time or getting back into the game after years away. Our sessions will be delivered in a visual, accessible way so deaf and hard of hearing players can take part fully alongside everyone else.

The sessions take place at:

Powerleague
Peterborough Road
Stanground
Peterborough
PE7 3BW

Sessions start at 7pm and will then run every fortnight. The cost is just £5 per person, per session, and it’s open to any age, male or female — friendly, competitive fun for everyone.

We’re delighted to announce that James Watson, an international England walking footballer, will be joining us for our very first session on 21 September to help us kick things off.

Getting active isn’t just about fitness — it’s hugely important for health and wellbeing, and sport is one of the best ways to build confidence and tackle isolation through socialising. Walking football is truly inclusive: it’s open to deaf BSL users, CODAs (children of deaf adults), men and women, of any age, and anyone is welcome to come along.

Walking football is the latest addition to CDA’s growing sports programme. We already run:

  • CDA Pickleball Club – monthly at Bushfield Sports Centre (dates to be confirmed)
  • Accessible deaf boxing sessions with Boxing Futures – every other Friday in Yaxley, Peterborough
  • Cambs Hammers deaf football teams – every Wednesday at Powerleague, Peterborough

Walking football means there’s now an accessible sport on offer for even more of our community to get involved in.

Find out more about the session, including a map and directions, on our Sports page.
