John Cheetham, Former President of Peterborough and District Deaf Children’s Society has passed away.

It is with great sadness we learned yesterday of the passing of John Cheetham.

John, a prominent and respected figure in the deaf and hearing loss community in Peterborough, worked extensively with Lions Club International on their campaigns for improving the lives of people with hearing loss.

John was also was actively involved in the Peterborough and District Deaf Children’s Society (PDDCS) for over 20 years serving on the committee and as President until 2011.

His dedication to improving the lives of local deaf children was said to be crucial in the survival of the charity when times were tough and folding seemed likely.

Due to his time with PDDCS, John will have become known personally to many of the now deaf adults in Peterborough and their families who today who will remember his dedication, clarity of thought, laugh and friendly approach with fondness and admiration.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

John’s funeral will be held at Bretton Baptist Church, Copeland, Bretton, Peterborough at 12 noon, 16th March.
